Documentation
This page covers installation, setup, controls, and troubleshooting for the
Loom + Eden Bundle. Edit this file (src/content/docs.md) to update the docs —
every ## heading becomes a section in the sidebar.
Requirements
Before installing, make sure you have:
- Ableton Live
- Max for Live
- a MIDI instrument to use after Loom or Eden
Installation
- Download the files from your purchase receipt.
- If the bundle is provided as an Ableton Pack, open the
.alpfile and choose an install location. - If the devices are provided as
.amxdfiles, place them in your Ableton User Library or another folder you use for Max for Live devices. - For easier access, add the folder to Ableton's Places section.
Basic Setup
- Create a MIDI track in Ableton Live.
- Place Loom or Eden on the track.
- Place an instrument after it, such as a piano, synth, sampler, or string library.
- Arm the track or enable monitoring.
- Play or hold a chord.
- Adjust the device controls to shape the generated MIDI pattern.
Loom Controls
A reference for the controls on the Loom device.
Voices and notes
- Voice count — sets how many voices play (1–6). Each voice has its own row and can be assigned a note.
- Voice rows (1–6) — select and edit the pattern for each voice.
- Note labels (C2, D#2, G#2…) — the incoming note each voice responds to.
- Monophonic — restricts output to a single voice at a time.
- x2 — doubles the active rate.
- Audition (headphone) — preview output while editing.
Pattern editor
- Step bars — the large bars set the pattern or value for each step.
- Gate lane — the row beneath the bars toggles which steps play.
- Step count — the number value (e.g. 16) sets how many steps are in the sequence.
Mode
- Velocity — edit per-step velocity.
- Duration — edit per-step note length.
Sprinkle
- High Sprinkle — adds occasional higher-register notes.
- Low Sprinkle — adds occasional lower-register notes.
Performance
- Shuffle — reorders the pattern.
- Randomize — randomizes the current values.
- Clear All — resets the pattern.
- Voice Stealing — reassigns voices when more notes arrive than voices available.
- Latch (cc64) — holds notes using the sustain pedal.
- Flip Order — reverses the voice order.
- Note Length (x1 / x2 / x4) — multiplies note length.
- Octave (− / 0 / +) — shifts output up or down by octaves.
- Panic — stops all hanging notes.
Velocity controls
- Min / Max — output velocity range.
- Random — adds velocity variation as a percentage.
- Curve — shapes the velocity response (e.g. Soft).
- Sensitivity — how strongly input dynamics affect output.
Eden Controls
Eden shares most controls with Loom. The differences are listed here.
- Tempo / Sync — run Eden free or synced to Live's tempo. When unsynced, set a BPM value.
- Voice rates — each voice can run at a different rate, producing polyrhythms.
- R / 1 — repeat / ratio controls for voice movement.
All other controls (Velocity, Duration, Sprinkle, Voice Stealing, Latch, Flip Order, Note Length, Octave, and the Velocity controls) behave as they do in Loom.
Using Loom
Use Loom when you want tighter rhythmic control.
Start with a simple chord and a basic instrument. Adjust the pattern, velocity, note length, and octave controls until the part sits correctly.
Loom works well for rhythmic piano parts, synth patterns, and live performance setups.
Using Eden
Use Eden when you want movement that evolves over time.
Eden is designed for polyrhythmic patterns, where voices can move at different rates.
It works well for ambient textures, cascading notes, and less predictable MIDI movement.
Using Hush
Place Hush before Loom or Eden.
Use it to reduce the number of incoming notes before they reach the sequencer.
This can help keep dense chords from becoming too busy.
Troubleshooting
I hear no sound
Loom and Eden generate MIDI only. Make sure an instrument is placed after the device.
The device does nothing
Check that the track is receiving MIDI and that monitoring or track arm is enabled.
I cannot find the devices
Check where the files were installed. Add that folder to Ableton's Places section.
Do I need Max for Live?
Yes. The current versions are Max for Live devices.
Can I use these outside Ableton?
Not yet. VST3 and AU versions are under development.
